James Franco Made Me Do It

Netflix is a powerful tool that helps me procrastinate each and everyday. I recently watched (and was lulled to a sleep by) Howl. The dreamy, jazzy half animated half "documentary" film which stars James Franco as Allen Ginsberg. I dug it. I dug the rhythms. I dug the soothing clacks of the typewriter. I dug the Balaban. I dug the nap it provided.

I wrote a poem, Successful Procrastination. Prepare to nap.

Another family dressed for soccer scuttles over gasoline streets.
Marching towards the market for their chance at discount meat.
Bloodied knees and muddy cleats clomp and stomp. Don't stop.
Forward. Onward. Moving. Dragging. Clicking.
Clinging to the fleeting couponed harvest, called dinner time.

Eating over crusted plastic plates,
penny filled grease and cheap flesh
plop and slop and clog up drains.
Foggy thoughts of escape fill the kitchen
like invisible bloated cartoon bubbles.
No Calvin. No Hobbs. Just single thoughts.
Escape. Plop. Escape. Slop.
Escape. Bubble. Escape. Pop.
Escape with no smells of home.
Escape with no animal bone.
Escape without making those goals,
cause who needs these fucking soccer cleats anyway.
Escape. Sizzle. Escape. Crackle.
Escape. Broil. Escape. Boil.
Escape. Just another melted spatula.
Escape. Just another microwave buzz.
Escape. Just another rusted stab.
Escape. Just another.
Another fast meal.
Another piece of meat.
Another grass stain.
Another broken cleat.
Another family.
Another home.
Another one of us beat.

This is the official start date of my new weebly kelsiehuff.com website. It must be noted, I was lovin' my register.com customized site. So much blue and so many dang cupcakes! There were some pros. There were some cons. The customer support folks were super kind (those Canadians!). They were extra helpful and even knocked off some of my monthly fees. Truth be told, I missed messing around on the back end of my site and didn't like calling them up for any little change. (Hold music is not my friend.) I like being able to upload videos, add press links, and update new gigs each month.

Maybe I am just a control freak but I canceled my fancy customized site because I felt like I wasn't apart of my marketing. Updating the site myself makes me take note of how often (or not often!) I am booked at certain venues, reminds me that I need to film more performances, and allows me to see how I have grown and what goals I still need to meet.  I feel that being hands on with my website makes me a sharper, more professional artist.

Let me know what ya'll think of the look, the changes, the updates, and if you feel the same way about your marketing. I'm back in the driving seat and want your feedback.

Besides, if I mess it up too badly I can always console myself with giant blue cupcakes.
